Who are they?
They are a fictitious family whose members appear throughout the history of this country. If you are planning a historic theme event; looking for an attraction for a castle or place of historic interest; or teaching a particular period in school then one of the Ringwood family will be able to help.
The medium of living history through historical
interpretation has now become established in the fields of education and entertainment. A historic theme event without characters in costume cannot work well. A castle or place of historic interest may be pleasant but introduce someone from the past and another dimension is added. A speaker for a history group may be enthralling but a speaker with artefacts and in the costume that goes with the subject is also visually entertaining.
For schools the arrival of a character from the past in the secure environment of the classroom, to portray someone from their period of study who actually involves all of the class in the lesson, stimulates the children's interest and so increases learning potential.
Why choose one of the Ringwoods for your event?
Simply because of professionalism, the characters in the following pages are tried and tested, they have been found to work. The preparation of each has involved at least six months painstaking research using primary source material wherever possible. Costume is made from natural fabrics; artefacts are copied with meticulous care to be as near to the original as modern craftsmen can make.
Whilst a presentation is in progress it is never forgotten that the enjoyment of the audience is of paramount importance. The balance of content has also to be considered, for instance during a presentation involving war, great care is taken not to glamorize conflict because glamorous it is not. Attention is directed more toward the social aspect and its effect on ordinary people. This has been found to have a more positive response, moralizing is also avoided!
We like our audiences to leave happy and to take with them some of the information they have heard. Then hopefully they will tell their friends what an enjoyable time they had.
Presentations are constantly changing; fresh information and artefacts are always being added, as it is believed that improvements can always be made. It is said they you cannot please all of the people all of the time but we do try!
Do you need a speaker for a history group?
We are now able to offer non-costumed talks by certain characters from our range entitled An Audience With
'; the talk usually lasts for about one hour. This is suitable for history groups; WI's; social clubs or as an after dinner event. They are lively and entertaining and very popular indeed.
Costing depends on the character required and the distance to travel. Please contact for further details.
