Ragnor Svensson
VIKING WARRIOR CIRCA 954
Ragnor was a soldier of the last Viking king of Yorvik (York) Eric Bloodaxe. During his 30-minute presentation he talks about Viking history and the travels and achievements of these people. They were not just bloodthirsty marauders but great travellers and skilled artisans.
He has a small collection of carefully reproduced weapons the use of which he demonstrates. Ragnor then tells of the historic battle of Stamford Bridge in the year 1066, which was the last Viking invasion of England- or was it??
This presentation has been performed in York and on the Holy Island of Lindesfarne, which was a target for early Viking raids. Ragnor is a very popular character and is very well received.
The Vikings are included in the National Curriculum key stage 2.
